March 16

After an overnight stay back at Wildebeest Camp we hired a taxi for the day to see the sights of Nairobi

Nairobi

On the edge of Nairobi National Park  are two conservation centers visited by tourists and school groups
The elephant orphanage rehabilitates young orphaned elephants and then releases them into the wild.  They put on a "feeding time" show once a day.

This blind rhino lives at the elephant orphanage after attempts to cure his blindness and reintroduce him to the wild failed.  Rhinos were the only major animal we failed to see while in the parks.
The wildlife center is home to the endangered Rothschild Giraffe.  They have a raised platform for visitors to feed the giraffes.

More daring visitors feed the giraffes by holding a food pellet between their teeth to get a kiss for the giraffe

Our day also included lunch at a fancy suburban restaurant
and a visit to a workshop that provides employment by making ceramic beads for jewelry

and then after dinner at Wildebeest, it was time to head to the airport for our midnight departure
